I was pleasantly surprised to see this revamped website!!. A BIG thank you to all who worked so tirelessly to bring this to fruition. Another BIG thank you to the team from areas who visited us in Durbanville tonight. Your presence surely inspired us to carry on and spread the message of hope to the thousands of family members whose loved ones are suffering from the disease of addiction. I will always be grateful to The Naranon Family Group, for rescuing me from the brink of self-destruction and despair.

Be WellWink

Absolutely agree!! Well done to all of you that worked so hard in getting the website up and running.  It looks fresh, vibrant and alive.  Very easy to navigate as well.

With the changing face of modern society we need to be sure to keep the message alive in ways that are relevent and effective to people.  While the meetings are our primary healing space, I do believe that should take full adavantage of the impact that the internet can have in spreading the word.

Viva!!!

CoolGary, share your thought on the website. Feels good and easy to navigate. Don't see much interaction, but suppose the more people use the site the more useful the site will be.

There must be plenty of people who are not so close to meeting venues. Checked on the home page. Mostly meetings in Western Cape. If so, this could be a forum that can be utilised for an informal chat and/or just for sharing some thoughts and personal experiences.  I think through sharing in others experiences, one can pick and choose what might work for you if you apply it to your situation

Do believe every story is different. We all suffer from "the affects of someone else's addiction" as a common denominator, but our life conditions, family set-up, personal relations, family support etc are all different. So can I assume variety in experiences is what will contribute best in finding something that might work for you?

Would like to hear from someone.

@ Joe You're right - the more people use the site - especially the Forums the more alive it will be, and the more alive it is the more beneficial it's going to be - especially for those who live miles away from a meeting.

A good place to start is by sharing your story in the Shares Forum http://www.naranon.org.za/index.php?option=com_ccboard&view=topiclist&forum=6

Also...those who need help should post there questions, concerns, vents etc. in the First Aid section where the Naranon community can engage and support them through the comment system.

EmbarassedNever mind on closer inspection i see the Helpline link

I reckon to just give it time like hey...as people become more familiar with the site the more comfortable they will become about reaching out. I suppose I am speaking for myself here.

Hi Robyn. Had the same question, and you mislead me a bit with your Helpline comment. Found the link under Discussion Forum (Helpline). Quite easy actually. True, the more you use ...

I'm in a pretty good space at the moment. LaughingAttending meetings is just such an important part of one's recovery. Been in the program for a while now and now applying the program in everyday life.  Really work.

Don't know what I would have done in isolation. General public just don't understand how one is affected by anothers addiction, especially so if the person is very close (daughter, son, partner, etc). Because of the normal feelings of shame that comes with this desease, it was difficult to speak to people.  In the rooms it became easier because you just so feel the understanding when others share their experiencees that they struggling with. Sometimes what they say reflect your own struggles, other times it is just so much worse then yours that you feel gratitute for being where you are.  Do feel for those far from meeting forums. Again just so much gratitude for my space. Wink
